Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) members prepared the digital economic vision of the Asia-Pacific region at the 2018 APEC Summit held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea (PNG), on Nov 12-18.

It was noted in a written statement issued by the Directorate General of the Asia-Pacific and African Regions of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and received here on Saturday.

PNG for the first time hosted a series of APEC Summits comprising the Concluding Senior Official Meeting and APEC Ministerial Meeting and ending with the APEC Economic Leaders` Meeting (APEC Summit).

In line with the theme of PNG`s chairmanship in APEC 2018 "Harnessing Inclusive Opportunities, Embracing the Digital Future," the Indonesian delegation emphasized the need to improve access to digital technology, especially for people in rural and remote areas.

Through APEC, the Government of Indonesia will hold workshops on the use of digital technology to improve access to education in rural and remote areas.

At the ministerial meeting, APEC ministers discussed policy recommendations on the challenges of the global economy and determine the vision of an inclusive digital economy in the Asia-Pacific region to be further agreed upon by the APEC Economic Leaders.

Several other issues also discussed at the APEC Ministerial Meeting comprised the APEC agenda regarding regional economic integration, sustainable and inclusive development, as well as structural reforms to increase trade and investment.
