Inequality was one of the topics Jokowi keen to talk about in the lunch under the theme of `Promoting Inclusive Growth in the Digital Age`, according to a statement from Deputy for Protocol, Press and Media of the Presidential Secretariat, Bey Machmudin.
"If we want to talk about inclusive development, obviously we have to talk about SMEs. They are the backbone of the economy," Jokowi stated.
The total number of Indonesian SMEs stands at 62.9 million business units in 2017. As many as 6 million SMEs have operated their business online.
As the world has now entered the era of Industrial Revolution 4.0, which is a current trend of automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies, it opens the opportunity to adjust development orientation.
"In the next 30 years, (as concluded) in the Bogor Goals (and post 2020 vision), reducing inequality must be prioritized," Jokowi said.
Regarding human development, he emphasized that every person should be empowered, so they could contribute and be part of the development process.
For this reason, Indonesia has compiled a roadmap for Economic Policy and Vocational Training for 2017-2025.
"In order to maximize the benefits of the digital economy, structural reforms must be carried out. This reform is needed to increase investment in the field of digital economy, empower SMEs, and prepare skilled workers who are digital ready," Jokowi added.
At the end of his statement, the president stressed that the Indonesian government would continue to invest in human development.
