"This is a historical meeting, as it is held for the first time by OIC members," Chief of the Indonesian Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) Penny Lukito stated.
Lukito made the statement after attending the opening of the First Meeting of the Heads of National Medicines Regulatory Authorities (NMRAs) from OIC member states in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Apart from the 32 OIC member states, the NMRAs meeting of OIC is also being attended by representatives of the OIC institutions, WHO, UNICEF, IDB, associations of pharmacy industries and vaccines of the OIC.
The BPOM head remarked that Indonesia, a predominantly Muslim populated country, is committed to playing concrete roles in advancing member countries in all sectors, including health.
As a member of the OIC, Indonesia has carried out different forms of cooperation, which touch the hearts of Muslims, including Indonesia`s recognition of the Palestinian independence, she noted.
"It is important for medicine regulators among OIC member states to strengthen each other to distribute even strength. This tradition, culture, and religion based on a multilateral movement can forge better solidarity," Lukito emphasized.
