Nusa Dua, Bali (ANTARA News) - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati opined that important regulatory reforms were to be implemented as a mitigatory step for being better prepared in the face of an unexpected economic crisis.

"Although it does not guarantee that the crisis will not happen again, reforms must remain," Indrawati remarked at the opening ceremony of "The 8th Annual International Forum on Economic Development and Public Policy (AIFED)" in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Thursday.

Indrawati noted that in the current dynamic global environment, Indonesia needs to take precautionary measures, including through strengthening domestic conditions, so as to not be vulnerable to external pressure.

"Indonesia needs to understand what is happening with global conditions and prepare mitigation steps as we are a country with an `open economy,`" she noted.

Hence, she expects Indonesia, in future, to be able to bring about a transformation in the economic field to deal with global changes that are always accompanied by uncertainty.

"In the 20 years after the Asian crisis, Indonesia has reflected on progress. We must continue to change because we know that change is inevitable," he noted.

On the occasion, Indrawati also highlighted the importance of improving the quality of human resources to boost productivity along with the advancement of digital technology, so that Indonesia can become a developed country.

To achieve this, increasing investment in infrastructure and human resource development must continue to be a priority.

The AIFED meeting is an annual activity held since 2011 through cooperation of the Ministry of Finance with the Asian Development Bank and the Australian Government.

The implementation of AIFED aims to obtain a comprehensive picture of Indonesia`s economic transformation in the context of changing global landscapes as well as the necessary policy efforts.

This forum is a means for policy makers to collaborate with academics, businesspersons, and international institutions to identify challenges.

In addition, policy makers can create strategies that are able to exploit the potential of demographic profiles and technological advances to realize the vision of Indonesia`s economic transformation into a developed country.
