"Today, we passed on the dossiers of five suspects to the Surabaya Public Prosecutor`s Office based on the second phase of investigation. Last week, we also passed on the dossiers of three other suspects," Chief of the Criminal Detective Unit of the Surabaya City Police Adjunct Senior Commissioner, Sudamiran, said here on Wednesday.
The police are in the process of passing on the dossiers of two other suspects to the public prosecutor`s office, he noted.
"We arrested the two suspects only last November," he added.
One of the suspects was a 20-year old mother, identified by her initials as Ir, from Malang, East Java, he stated.
Sudamiran remarked that Ir was taken to Badung, Bali, when she was pregnant. While in Bali, Ir was treated by a midwife, identified by her initials as Ra, who also acted as a broker in baby trade.
"Soon after the baby was born, it was sold for Rp3.8 million, along with several jewelries, estimated at Rp2.5 million. Ir is the 10th suspect in this case," he revealed.
He explained that the mastermind of the baby trade is a 29-year old person, identified by initials as Al, who is a resident of Sidoarjo, East Java.
Al gathered young mothers or unmarried pregnant women to sell their babies and found buyers of the babies through her social media account in the Instagram.
"Three babies have been sold through the account in the Instagram," he pointed out.
