Denpasar (ANTARA News) - Garuda Indonesia plans to prepare 110 additional flights from and to the resort island of Bali to cater to the high demand ahead of the Christmas and New Year 2019 holidays.

"In response to the high demand, we will prepare two alternatives, the first being increasing the seating capacity or flight frequency," Garuda Indonesia District Manager for Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara I Wayan Supatrayasa stated here on Wednesday.

The additional flights will comprise 55 flights from and 55 flights to Bali. The additional flights will mostly be made available to routes from Bali to Jakarta, Surabaya, Bandung, and Lombok.

The national flag carrier will also increase the seating capacity of its three aircraft to cater to an influx of air passengers, he added.

He said the number of additional flights will represent a 10 percent increase as compared to a year before.

The additional flights will be valid from December 21, 2018, to January 6, 2019, he noted.

Garuda currently also serves flights linking Bali to Singapore, Japan, Australia, South Korea, Hong Kong, and China.

"Bali itself is a promising main destination for all airlines, including Garuda Indonesia, as it is a prominent tourist destination in the country," he noted.

Hence, Garuda had made Bali and Jakarta a hub for its flights to the rest of the country and the world, he noted.

Nearly 40 percent of the tourists visit Indonesia via Bali, he added.
