"The South Lampung district government is currently conducting assessments and verification of the damaged buildings to speed up the recovery process," BNPB Head Rear Admiral Willem Rampangilei remarked here on Thursday.
In the disaster emergency response period on December 23-29, 2018, he said the first area of focus was still on conducting search, rescue, and evacuation of tsunami victims, both in Banten and Lampung.
On the handling of refugees, he noted that the supplies, ranging from proper clothing to food and medicines, were abundant at several disaster command posts, but there is still a shortage of blankets and mattresses, so it will soon meet these urgent needs.
In this emergency response period, a joint team from the Indonesian Military (TNI), the National Police (Polri), the Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), BNPB, and volunteers had cleared the debris specifically piled up on the highway.
"We hope that during the emergency response period, the needs of victims of the tsunami disaster will be fulfilled," he added.
Meanwhile, Jumani, one of the refugees from Waymuli Village, Rajabasa Sub-district, South Lampung District, noted that his house had been razed to the ground, but fortunately, no family members had lost their lives or disappeared following the tsunami.
"For the help, it is sufficient, starting from clothes, food, soap, and so on. However, we have to remain patient in living in refugee camps that are like this," he added.
