"The best fish cultivation of this private company needs to be exemplified by other fish farming businesses in the districts and cities in North Sumatra Province," Deputy Chairperson of the North Sumatra Fisheries Association Nazli noted here on Monday.
He revealed that PT STP had also been bestowed the award of the best Fish Processing Unit (UPI) in implementing the Integrated Quality Management (MMT) program.
"The award was presented by North Sumatra Governor Edy Rahmayadi on the commemoration of the 19th Nusantara Day at the provincial level in Pangkalan Brandan, Langkat District, on December 28, 2018," Nazli noted.
Furthermore, he added that the government, through the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, is currently actively engaged in fish farming in the ponds and rivers.
The activity is a government program to increase the fish cultivation business and at the same time promote the economy of North Sumatra fishermen.
"Hence, fishermen looking for fish at sea not only use fishing gear but can also carry out fish cultivation," he noted.
Nazli urged fishermen to not solely rely on their fate to find fish at sea but to be able to cultivate fish in ponds, rivers, and other places that are quite strategic.
Fishermen, looking for fish to provide for their children and families, should not only depend on finding fish at sea but also conduct fish cultivation.
"Fish farming activities conducted by several fishermen have succeeded in improving their economies," he pointed out.
The North Sumatra provincial government had earlier established STP in Simalungun District as the best UPI in implementing the MMT program.
