"Land conflicts arise everywhere, as the people do not have land certificates, title deeds to the land they own," President Jokowi stated at the event held in Cengkareng Sub-district.
Jokowi symbolically handed over the certificates to 12 people representing three thousand families receiving the land certificates.
The 12 people included housewives, self-employed, and employees of private companies.
A total of 63,690 plots of land have been certified in West Jakarta.
President Jokowi said the land certificates can be used to obtain bank loans. He, however, reminded the recipients to use the loans for productive businesses.
The government has set a target of issuing nine million land certificates in 2019.
The Agrarian and Spatial Planning Ministry issued a total of 9.315 million land certificates, exceeding the target of seven million land certificates during 2018.
