"Campaigns and democracy should not be heated because young people feel weary by the hateful campaigns carried out by both parties," said coordinator of UI Millennial for Jokowi Deny Gio Vanno, after watching the debate along with supporters of the two camps at Kafe Nusa Kopi in Jakarta, Thursday night, Jan 17.
The presidential debate event was attended by supporters of candidate number 01 from the KitaSatu Volunteer forum and the UI Millennial for Jokowi and supporters of candidate number 02 from Pride volunteers and Prabowo-Sandi Friends.
Meanwhile, public relations of Pride Volunteer Fauzi Firmansyah said watching the debate together could strengthen friendship between supporters and ease tensions on social media.
He stressed that even though social media seemed to be heating up because of the debate over support towards candidate pairs, in daily life it does not need to be hostile.
"Leave the tension on social media, just relax and enjoy it," said Fauzi.
Throughout the watching together event, supporters of the pair Joko Widodo-Ma`ruf Amin and Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno were getting along well and maintained order in supporting their respective candidates.
