Kalla, flanked by Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono and Central Sulawesi Governor Longki Djanggola, toured the location of the shelters in Duyu village and went inside one of the shelters to see the condition of the house built by the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry.
He also chaired a coordinating meeting to discuss finalization of post-disaster reconstruction plan.
The closed-door meeting was also attended by the National Development Planning Minister; Minister Basuki Hadimuljono; the Social Affairs Minister; the National Agrarian Agency`s chief; the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) chief; the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG)`s chief; the Geology Agency`s chief; the Palu Mayor; and the district heads of Sigi, Donggala, and Parigi Moutong.
A magnitude-7.4 earthquake and a subsequent tsunami struck the districts of Palu, Donggala, Sigi, and Parigi Moutong in Central Sulawesi on Sept 28, 2018.
The Central Sulawesi earthquake and tsunami claimed 2,102 lives, injured 4,612, and rendered 680 others missing. A total of 68,451 homes were seriously damaged, and 78,994 people were displaced.
Material losses inflicted by the twin deadly disasters are estimated to reach more than Rp10 trillion.
