Yogyakarta, (ANTARA News) - The 14th meeting of an informal partnership between Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey and Australia (MIKTA) held in Yogyakarta on Thursday discussed the strength and commitment of member states to contribute to addressing various global issues.

The issues discussed at the closed-door meeting included the attainment of Development Agenda 2030, strengthening of multilateral partnership, counter-terrorism, Korean Peninsula issue, and the global cooperation related to migration.

MIKTA was initiated during an informal meeting of G20 foreign ministers held in Los Cabos, Mexico, in February 2012. It was created in 2013 on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City and aims to support effective global governance.

The 14th MIKTA meeting brought together Indonesian Vice Foreign Minister AM Fachir, Mexican Vice Foreign Minister Julian Ventura Valero, South Korean Vice Foreign Minister Tae Ho Lee, Turkish Vice Foreign Minister Faruk Kaymakci, and Deputy for Multilateral Policies at the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Justin Lee.

Fachir led the meeting held under a Head of Delegation (HoD) + 2 Senior Officials format. The meeting marked the conclusion of Indonesia's chairmanship of MIKTA in 2018. Mexico will later take up the post of MIKTA coordinator in 2019.

He also highlighted the development of MIKTA activities under the leadership of Indonesia and the results of international meetings held in the country.

MIKTA aims to support the strength of global governance and strives to find solutions to global issues by maintaining multilateral cooperation scheme and contributing positively to addressing various global issues.

As a medium force forum, MIKTA plays a role in bridging and creating consensuses between developing countries and developed nations. It also encourages collective chairmanship in multilateralism.

MIKTA meeting is alternately coordinated by coordinating country every year.
