Dewa Putu Gede, Head of the Central Java Regional Ministry of Law and Human Rights, stated in Semarang on Monday that inspections held over the past few months found cell phones circulating inside the prison.
However, Gede did not explain in detail the number of cell phones that were seized during the raid.
According to him, the raid was carried out to follow up on the Circular of the Director General of Corrections of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights regarding progressive steps taken in the efforts to eradicate narcotics in detention houses and prisons.
"Mobile phones are generally found," he noted.
Furthermore, he added that the findings would be submitted to the directorate general of prisons.
Head of the Central Java Penitentiary Division of the Legal and HAM Ministry Heni Yuwono remarked that the efforts to eradicate narcotics in detention houses and prisons could not be carried out by the institution itself.
"We involve other relevant stakeholders, such as the BNN and the police," he revealed.
According to him, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights has also committed to taking action against individual employees if proven to be involved in narcotics abuse in detention centers or prisons.
