Pekanbaru, Riau, (ANTARA News) - An Egyptian citizen named Tarek Ashour Mostafa Abdelaty was transported on Friday from Pekanbaru in Riau Province to Jakarta to be then deported through the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Saturday.

Abdelaty, who entered Dumai City as a tourist in September 2018, was deported from Indonesia after he ran out of money and became a beggar to get money, Head of the Pekanbaru Immigration Office's Detention House Junior Sigalingging stated.

Speaking to Antara here on Friday, Sigalingging noted that Abdelaty was merely carrying a piece of shirt that he had packed in a plastic bag on the day he had departed from Pekanbaru City for Soekarno Hatta International Airport aboard a Batik Air flight at 8 a.m. local time.

To look presentable, the Pekanbaru detention center authorities handed him a long-sleeve collarless shirt that local Muslim men generally wear, as he was required to stay overnight at the airport`s detention house for his next flight for Cairo, Egypt.

Sigalingging revealed that Abdelaty will leave Jakarta for Cairo, the capital city of Egypt, on Saturday.

Referring to his passport's records, Abdelaty entered Indonesia through Dumai City in September 2018 as a tourist. He then continued his trip to Pekanbaru. After going around the city for several days, he returned to Dumai and attempted to go to Malaysia.

The Egyptian man, born in Giza on August 15, 1970, was refused entry into the country by the Malaysian immigration authorities. In return, he was ordered to get back to Dumai City, Sigalingging revealed.

Shortly after arriving in Dumai, the city's immigration authorities arrested him and sent him to the Pekanbaru detention house in December 2018 for the deportation process.

However, the deportation process was not simple since at first, the Egyptian Embassy in Jakarta was reluctant to buy him a flight ticket.

Finally, the Indonesian Government was willing to provide a Pekanbaru-Jakarta flight ticket to Abdelaty, while the Egyptian Government was ready to purchase a Jakarta-Cairo flight ticket for him.

Abdelaty will have to stay at the Pekanbaru detention house for some two months while awaiting the time of return to his country, he added.
