Pangkal Pinang, Bangka Belitun (ANTARA) - Pangkal Pinang, Bangka Belitung (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) presented 2,500 land certificates to the residents of Bangka Belitung Province to prevent possible conflicts over land ownership.

"What I have heard is about land conflict among neighbors, communities, relatives, and the community against local governments, or the community and companies. Why? It is because the people do not have land certificates proving their legal rights over the land that they own," President Jokowi remarked here on Thursday.

The president cautioned that the recipients looking to use the certificates to get loans must carefully gauge the business aspects and calculate the installments.

Jokowi emphasized that the loans must be used as business capital or for other productive purposes rather than for consumptive spending.

The president revealed that the Ministry of Agrarian and Spatial/the National Agrarian Agency (BPN) had accelerated the process of issuing and presenting land certificates to the people.

In 2017, the government had handed over 5.4 million land certificates, while in 2018, the number had reached 9.4 million, exceeding the target of seven million.

This year, the government has set a target of distributing nine million certificates.

The ceremony to hand over land certificates was attended by 2,081 recipients comprising 806 residents of Pangkal Pinang, 924 of Bangka, and 351 of Central Bangka.
