AntaraJakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's third President Baharuddin Jusuf Habibie has set high hopes on the United Development Party (PPP) being able to achieve the minimum four percent threshold necessary for parliamentary representation in the 2019 General Election.
"We prioritize what takes place now, in no way, harms the PPP's image, so the PPP (vote) can cross the four percent threshold," Habibie stated while receiving Acting Chairperson PPP General Suharso Monoarfa at his residence, Jakarta, Thursday (Apr 4) night.
According to a press release, Habibie recalled that PPP was a party that originated from the political Islam movement. He is optimistic that the PPP will continue to make its mark in Indonesia's political scene.
Association of Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals (ICMI) Chairperson Jimly Asshiddiqie, one of the meeting's attendees, expressed belief that the PPP is capable of tackling all existent issues.
Furthermore, Asshiddiqie expressed conviction that with Suharso currently leading the party's reins, PPP can realize the outlined targets.
"I am among those who believe that Mr Suharso and his friends can promptly survive consolidating the party, with the initial target of being able to overcome the hurdle of the PT," the ex-chairperson of the Constitutional Court emphasized.
Suharso, in the company of PPP Secretary-General Arsul Sani and PPP's vice general chairman Arwani Thomafi, claimed that his meeting was to touch base with Habibie.
Suharso opined that Habibie had continued to lay consistent focus on Indonesia's development and progress.
"I often seek his inputs and advice in several areas, including in the socio-political field," Suharso added.
