Indramayu, West Java (ANTARA) - Cimanuk River has overflowed its bank, causing widespread flooding in thousands of homes in 12 villages situated in five sub-districts in Indramayu District, West Java Province, since Monday.

"Five sub-districts are currently inundated after Cimanuk River spilled over its bank," Eddy Kusdiana, the Indramayu disaster mitigation office head, remarked here, Tuesday.

Indramayu, Lohbener, Sindang, Cantigi, and Pasekan are the sub-districts reeling under the impact of the flooding.

Kusdiana pointed out that Kenangan Village in Indramayu Sub-district had borne the maximum impact of the flooding, with floodwaters reaching a height of nearly a meter.

"On an average, the waters run some 50 meters deep," he added.

The local authorities have maintained vigil, as the water level of Rentang Dam, whose water flows to Cimanuk River, is still high.

Various emergency command posts and a public kitchen have been established in several areas to aid the displaced flood-affected victims.
