Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will take all necessary measures to aid those detained in graft cases to exercise their franchise in the general election scheduled on Apr 17.

"It is a must; they have the right to vote. Until and unless there is a revocation of their political rights, they have the right," the anti-graft body's Deputy Chairman Saut Situmorang remarked here, Tuesday.

Situmorang was unequivocal in highlighting a human rights violation if the detainees were not permitted to vote.

"Our friends in the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) said that no one should be left behind in the elections. No one. All those eligible to vote should cast their votes. That is the message sent across by Komnas HAM," he emphasized.

However, the KPK deputy chairman was not yet in a position to share information on the venue of the voting booth for detainees. "I do not know as yet," he stated.

During the 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election, the anti-graft body had readied a voting booth in its old building, presently in use as the Anti-Corruption Learning Center (ACLC), for those in detention facing corruption charges to exercise their voting rights.
