Banda Aceh (ANTARA) - Several thousand students staged another demonstration outside the Aceh Governor's Office, Wednesday, to voice their rejection to planned gold mining activities in Beutong area in Nagan Raya and Central Aceh in Indonesia's westernmost province Aceh.

Prior to congregating outside the governor's office, the students met at the Sultanah Safiatuddin Park, located several hundred meters away.

Mining firm PT Emas Mineral Murni (EMM) has planned to conduct gold mining activities in the Beutong area in the districts of Nagan Raya and Central Aceh.
.
The students later approached the office while shouting out slogans of "Reject, reject, reject EMM."

Shortly after reaching the Aceh governor's office's main entrance, the demonstrating students were barred entry into the office through a police cordon.

The students thereafter held their ground while protesting on the street in front of the office, with several of them giving speeches and praising the Prophet Muhammad (salawat badar).

Access to the road facing the Aceh governor's office that led to Darussalam campus was closed, with the police redirecting traffic to the road leading to Lampineung Stadium.

This count of student protestors partaking in the rally surpassed that in a similar rally held a day prior.

Tuesday's rally concluded in commotion, with police personnel resorting to tear gas to dispel the protesting students, during which some suffered head injuries.
