The police officer, identified by his initials Chief Brigadier KB, was found guilty of violating article 111, paragraph 2 of Narcotics Law No. 35/2009, according to a verdict issued by the panel of judges on Tuesday evening. "The police officer who was involved in a drug case has been sentenced to 10 years in jail," spokesman for the district court Didiek Jatmiko said in Mataram on Wednesday.
KB's role in the drug case came to light after he was found in possession of 7.7 kilograms of hashish.
Both the public prosecutor and the defendant were still undecided about appealing against the verdict.
"With regard to the verdict, both sides still [have to] make up their minds," he said.
However, the defendant through his lawyer Heru Mahnun Siddiq said he will not appeal against the verdict. "No, we will not appeal against the verdict but will file a review of the case pending the verdict having fixed legal force," he said.
