The two suspects were wanted following the Indonesian Navy's discovery of a speedboat carrying 64 kgs of crystal methamphetamine at Sruway beach, Aceh Tamiang, on September 13, 2018.
"The arrest was a result of cooperation with the PDRM, particularly the Malaysian Narcotic Agency, after the team found the duo in Pulau Penang, Malaysia," BNN Deputy Inspector General Arman Depari said in a short message on Thursday. Based on an investigation by BNN, the drugs were smuggled into Indonesia from Malaysia by Bahti and Nurmanysah, who ran away to Malaysia following the Indonesian Navy's success in foiling the smuggling attempt.
"Based on our investigation, BNN detected that the two suspects had run away to Malaysia," he said.
Thanks to the cooperation of the PDRM and upon the request of the BNN, the two suspects were arrested and later taken to Medan, North Sumatra.
