Jakarta (ANTARA) - Presidential candidate number 01 Joko Widodo (Jokowi) laid weightage on track record in politics as a key aspect to leading Indonesia.

Addressing several thousand supporters thronging the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta, Saturday, to be part of the final campaign rally, Jokowi elaborated on his political career spanning his term as Surakarta mayor for the 2005-2012 period to DKI Jakarta governor during the 2012-2012 period, and the incumbent president from 2014 to current.

“That is what we term as track record. The voters must be able to see the track record and achievements of (every candidate),” Jokowi remarked.

During his speech, Jokowi satirically pulled the plug on his competitor, former Army general Prabowo Subianto, named for alleged human rights violations in the past.

“I carry no burden of the past,” he affirmed.

The 57-year-old president expressed disagreement and displeasure to Subianto’s pessimistic statement of the country’s future. In March 2018, Subianto had remarked that Indonesia could split by 2030, and in December, he spoke of Indonesia becoming extinct if he did not win in the upcoming elections.

“I want to make it lucid (here) that our country Indonesia will not break up. We are now on the right track (for a better future),” Jokowi stated.

However, he believes that it was no simple task to lead Indonesia to become an advanced and prosperous nation.

Taking into account the archipelago's size and large population, it will encounter numerous challenges going ahead.

“However, believe me, by being on the right track and path, we, as a country, are poised to become more advanced (in future),” Jokowi noted.

Jokowi, possessing a civilian background as a furniture entrepreneur, called on the voters to select a leader coming from the masses and heedful of the public needs.

“Select (a president), who will constantly prioritize the interests of the people over and above anything else,” he emphasized.

Prior to concluding his speech, Jokowi called on Indonesians to head to polling stations and cast their ballot on April 17, 2019.
