We have taken a wrong way. The People's Republic of China within 40 years has managed to eradicate poverty. We must follow this example. Dare to learn from an advanced nation
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto has said the Indonesian Government could take an example from China in poverty eradication efforts to deal with the problem which is still existing in this country.

"We have taken a wrong way. The People's Republic of China within 40 years has managed to eradicate poverty. We must follow this example. Dare to learn from an advanced nation," Subianto said during the fifth round of the presidential election debate here on Saturday.

He opined that Indonesia's economy has gone toward a wrong direction, hence it needs a reorientation of development strategy.

The government has to have a plan on industrialization development by protecting farmers and halting imports, Subianto remarked.

"Frankly speaking, I don't blame Mr. Jokowi. This is our mistake as a nation, because we have taken the wrong way for tens of years," the retired general said.

The presidential candidate also said that Indonesia is currently experiencing de-industrialization, hence he promised that he would revive industrialization in this country if he wins.

Over 192 million Indonesians are expected to cast their votes in the 2019 legislative and presidential elections to be held simultaneously across the country on April 17, 2019. This year's race will be a re-run of the bitter 2014 presidential election that showcased the country's divide, as Joko Widodo (Jokowi) went head-to-head with Subianto.

Incumbent Jokowi has picked prominent ulema Ma'ruf Amin as his running mate, while Subianto has chosen successful and young businessman Sandiaga Uno as his running mate.
