Jakarta (ANTARA) - House Speaker Bambang Soesatyo has made an appeal to the General Election Commission (KPU), local KPUs (KPUD), and the Election Supervisory Board (Bawasu) to ensure that revoting is conducted sans violations and lapses.

"The KPU, KPUD, and Bawaslu must ensure that no further violations or errors occur during revoting," he noted in a statement here on Monday.

A revote will be held for the simultaneous legislative and presidential elections in the provinces of Banten, East Java, South Sulawesi, West Sumatra, Jambi, and Papua, among others, owing to several factors, including delayed delivery of election logistics, natural disasters, or cases of electoral violations.

The senior Golkar politician has called on the KPU to closely examine issues that arose during the 2019 simultaneous legislative and presidential elections and to ascertain that the electoral results were based on the principles of direct, general, free, secretive, honest, and fair elections.

He also called on the KPU and Bawaslu to ensure transparency at work by adhering to the principles of integrity, professionalism, and self-reliance.

Indonesia held the world's biggest and most complicated single-day vote on April 17, 2019, at some 810 thousand polling stations across its 34 provinces and overseas.

The count of eligible voters crossed 192 million, and the voter turnout was expected to surpass 80 percent.

During polling day, voters cast their ballot for president and vice president, members of the House of Representatives (DPR), senators of the Regional Representative Councils (DPD), members of the Provincial Legislative Council (DPRD 1), and members of the District/Municipality Legislative Council (DPRD II).

Numerous voters were taken aback by the complex nature of the elections along with low knowledge on whom to elect, apart from the president and vice president.

Vice President M. Jusuf Kalla, on April 17, 2019, sought to conduct an evaluation of the implementation of the election since it was billed as being complicated.

Kalla put forth a suggestion that for the 2024 election, Indonesia should hold the presidential and legislative election separately.
