Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Police have named lawyer and activist Eggi Sudjana a treason suspect in connection with his call for people power in responding to the presidential election quick count results.

"Yes, he (Eggi Sudjana) was named a suspect," a spokesman of the Jakarta Police Senior Commissioner Argo Yuwono confirmed here on Thursday.

Sudjana was named a suspect after the police conducted a case expose on Wednesday (May 8). "He was named a suspect on the basis of the result (of the expose)," Yuwono revealed.

Investigation will be conducted into the case under article 107 and 110 of the criminal code on attempt of treason and/or article 87 of the criminal code, and article 14 and 15 of Law No. 1 of 1946.

A legislator candidate from the Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Dewi Ambarawati, alias Dewi Tanjung, had filed a legal suit against Eggi Sudjana for his call on people power during an event that went viral on social media.

Supriyanto, a volunteer of presidential candidate pair Jokowi-Ma'ruf, had also instituted a legal suit against Eggi Sudjana on alleged incitement.

Sudjana, a politician of the National Mandate Party (PAN), voiced the call on people power on Apr 17 in response to the outcome of the General Election Commission's (KPU's) quick count indicating a victory for the Jokowi-Ma'ruf Amin pair.
