Gorontalo (ANTARA) - A Chinese national, identified as Yang Hechuan, 30, died after falling down a 20-meter-deep gold mine shaft in Ilangata Village, Anggrek Sub-district, North Gorontalo District, Gorontalo Province, on Sunday, at 8 p.m. local time.

Yang and Muslim Blonkot, 29, a local villager, were reportedly in the shaft and experiencing a shortage of oxygen before they fell.

Blonkot was in a critical state and immediately moved to the Dr Zainal Umar Siddiki Regional Hospital.

"One victim arrived dead at the hospital, while the other is in a critical condition," Dr Angga Wijaya, the physician in charge of emergency treatment at the hospital located in Bulalo Village, Kwandang Sub-district, remarked.

Yulianti Amir, a resident of Ilangata Village, revealed that local villagers offered voluntary assistance for evacuating the two victims from the shaft and promptly took them to a community health post in close proximity after receiving information on the accident.
