"Eggi Sudjana was detained on the basis of an arrest warrant, dated May 14, 2019," Jakarta Police spokesman Senior Commissioner Argo Yowono remarked here on Tuesday.
The arrest warrant was signed at 6:25 a.m. local time and handed over to Sudjana's wife, Asmini Budiani, he revealed.
"(The warrant) was received by the suspect's wife, Asmini Budiani," Yuwono confirmed.
The police officer remarked that the investigators had 24 hours in hand to take a decision on the suspect's detention.
"The investigators have a day to come to a decision on whether the suspect will be detained. Detention comes under the authority of the investigators, and it could possibly take place," the police spokesman remarked.
Pitra Romadoni Nasution, the lawyer of Eggi Sudjana, remarked that the Jakarta Police arrested his client after investigators interrogated him for 13 hours since Monday at 4:30 p.m. local time. The arrest was made on Tuesday at 5:30 a.m. local time.
According to Nasution, the arrest was far from normal, as it was conducted in the Jakarta Police's investigation room.
Nasution noted that his client, who is also a legislative candidate from the National Mandate Party (PAN), was held in detention for a day since the issuance of the warrant.
Sudjana is yet in the Jakarta Police's investigation room and had penned a brief note that was handed over to his lawyer.
"It is strange, as treason has not taken place, yet the suspect exists and is arrested," the note read.
