Jakarta (ANTARA) - State Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno is eyeing to complete 59 percent of the construction of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway project before the end of 2019.

"Alhamdulillah (Thank God), before the end of 2019, the construction work will be 59 percent complete," the minister remarked in Walini, West Bandung District, West Java, on Tuesday.

Soemarno confirmed that work on the project was currently 17.5 percent complete.

"The construction work presently reaches 17.5 percent. We are targeting to achieve 59 percent completion in the remaining seven months (this year), so we are optimistic of facing no major obstacle," she noted.

The minister affirmed that land clearance for the project was nearing 100 percent, with merely four percent yet to be completed.

"The West Java governor and West Bandung district head have extended support (for the project) with regard to the permit," she pointed out.

On Tuesday, Soemarno inaugurated the completed high-speed railway tunnel in Walini.

The 608-meter tunnel, which took 15 months to build, is a major milestone in the construction of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway.

The Walini tunnel is the first of the projected 13 to be completed

An event called "Tunnel Walini Breakthrough” was held to mark the joining of the Walini tunnels in the presence of Soemarno, Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Xiao Qian, Director General of Land Procurement Arie Yunwin, West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil, and West Bandung District Head As Umbara Sutisna.

The Walini tunnel is horizontal, with an inner diameter of 12.6 meters and an outer diameter of 14.3 meters. It has a slope of 1‰ (one per mil), a high rocky grade V, and a maximum depth of 37 meters.
