Jakarta (ANTARA) -
Tens of people suspected of inciting chaos at an anti-election fraud rally were taken to the Jakarta Metropolitan Police for questioning on Wednesday.

Those detained were mostly youths marching to the Jakarta Metropolitan Police while under police guard.

Earlier, those detained were held in custody at the Directorate of Detainees and Evidence before being taken to the Directorate of General Crimes.

The police reportedly detained tens of suspected provocateurs from various locations in Petamburan, Jakarta.

Chief of the Public Information Bureau of the National Police Brigadier General Dedi Prasetyo stated that the police detained 62 people suspected of inciting violence during a rally in front of the Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) building in Jakarta, which resulted in chaos in some areas of the capital late Tuesday and early Wednesday.

"The police have arrested over 62 people for allegedly acting as provocateurs and committing other criminal offences," Praseyo said.

Prasetyo, ex-deputy chief of the Central Kalimantan Provincial Police, believes third parties had infiltrated the rallies late Tuesday and early Wednesday, which resulted in chaos.

"We have, in advance, raised caution over third parties attempting to further their plans by fueling the unrest. Hence, we appeal to the public to not become agitated," he noted.
