The planned construction of the museum is the government's agenda in the future.Palu, C Sulawesi (ANTARA) - The administration of Palu City, Central Sulawesi's capital, plans to construct a natural disaster museum to remind visitors and raise awareness of its exposure to the earthquake, tsunami, and liquefaction on September 28, 2018.
"It is the government's future agenda to construct the museum," Chief of the Palu City Development Planning Board (Bappeda) Arfan remarked at a discussion in Palu on Sunday.
The disaster museum holds significance, as it will not only jog the visitors' memory of the disasters that ravaged Palu City and the districts of Siigi Donggala and Parigi Montong but also serve as a tourist destination and a means of edifying the public, he remarked.
"We are still on the lookout for a location for the museum," he remarked.
Researcher and academic Prof. Dr H. Amar Akbar Ali, S.T.,M.T. of the Technical Faculty of Tadulako University, who was also one of the keynote speakers at the discussion, has supported the plan to construct the disaster museum.
In fact, the Bappeda had submitted the plan to Palu Mayor Hidayat long prior to the disaster striking, he stated.
"Palu is the only city in the world that lies on the primary, secondary, and tertiary plates," he pointed out.
Arfan recalled having earlier urged the university's researchers and geologists to locate the fault points in Palu City.
Several hundred people lost their lives, while hundreds of others suffered injuries when a powerful earthquake and ensuing tsunami and liquefaction hit Central Sulawesi on Sept 28 last year.
