Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has officially taken suspended president director of state-electricity company PT PLN Sofyan Basir (SFB) into detention over corruption in connection with the construction of the Riau-1 thermal power plant.

"SFB is under detention for the initial 20 days in a KPK prison branch located behind KPK's Red White Building," KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah stated here on Monday.

The agency had earlier again questioned SFB on Monday as a graft suspect in the Riau-1 thermal power plant construction contract case.

SFB has faced interrogation twice after being named a suspect on April 23, 2019. The KPK conducted SFB's interrogation as a suspect in the corruption case on Monday (May 6), though he was not detained thereafter.

SFB filed a pre-trial suit in the South Jakarta District Court to challenge the KPK's decision to name him a suspect in the graft case, though he later withdrew it.

The anti-graft body had named SFB a suspect in the graft case in connection with the Riau-1 thermal power plant (PLTU) construction contract on April 23, 2019.

The commission charged SFB for accepting a bribe from Blackgold Natural Resources shareholder Johannes Budisutrisno Kotjo in connection with the project.

The agency suspected that Sofyan Basir, Eni Maulani Saragih, and Johannes Kotjo had met on numerous occassions for discussing the PLTU development project.
