"We are reviewing and preparing documents. After everything is complete, we will propose (rendang) to become a part of the world cultural heritage list," said West Sumatra Governor, Irwan Prayitno, here on Monday.
The process of preparing the document takes years of research and study and a number of competent parties will be involved in the process.
Among them includes content related to the spices used in and the health benefits of rendang. Rendang is considered as healthy even though it is cooked using coconut milk.
He said the proposal would also compete with those from other provinces in Indonesia. The Head of the Cultural Heritage Section of the West Sumatra Cultural Office, Afrimas, said the flow of proposals for the world cultural heritage list began with the regional government.
After being proposed to UNESCO, it still has to go through selection, research documentation and discussion, until the finalization of the document.
Referring to the decision of the "Ombilin Coal Mining Heritage of Sawahlunto" as world heritage, the process for the purpose began in 2015 and was only set in 2019.
