Beijing (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Trade Minister, Enggartiasto Lukita, visited the Xinfadi Central Market, Beijing, Friday, to closely observe the buying and selling activities at the biggest wholesale center in the Chinese capital. During the visit, he was welcomed by the Managing Director of the Xinfadi Main Market, Gu Zhao Xue, and the traders of the surrounding halal (permissible) meat zone.

In addition to listening to the explanation from Xue, the Minister of Trade also held discussions with several halal meat traders through the help of translators.

"Something like this is in Keramat Jati (East Jakarta), but the pattern is a bit different. It is more modern here. It also serves 'online'," the trade minister told Antara.

The Xinfadi Central Market is in the Fengtai District, a suburb of Beijing City. The market applies a zoning system as per the commodities, such as meat which is differentiated between halal and non-halal, fish, vegetables, and fruits.

Some imported products, including fruit and vegetables, are also separated from local agricultural products.

Meat sold at the Xinfadi Central Market is supplied by separate slaughterhouses and certified by the health department.

The market which has an area of 200 hectares, is also equipped with cold storage.

The Xinfadi Central Market has a large parking bay that can accommodate hundreds of trucks from various regions in China to transport various livestock and agricultural commodities.

In addition to bringing together the big traders with the provision of special vehicle parking for goods for the region within the city, it also serves retail buyers.

In the market, there are also wholesale shops that specifically sell goods from certain provinces or regions in China.

During his visit to the Xinfadi Central Market, Enggartiasto was accompanied by the Director General of International Trade Negotiations Ministry of Trade Iman Pambagyo, Trade Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing Marina Novira, and several other officials from the Indonesian Embassy and the Ministry of Trade.
