"Development in Natuna District must be conducted comprehensively and in an integrated manner to provide maximum benefits for the economy and the Natuna community," the coordinating minister's deputy for maritime sovereignty, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, said in a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday.
Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa visited Natuna to attend a joint coordination meeting between the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and the Natuna Administration.
The meeting was chaired jointly by Natuna District Head, Hamid Rizal, and the coordinating minister's deputy for maritime sovereignty, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, and attended by representatives of all work units within the Natuna Administration and the officers of the military, police and the Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla).
On the basis of geostrategic facts and potential natural resources in Natuna, the government launched five pillars of Natuna development, namely marine and fisheries, tourism, oil and gas industry services, marine environment, and defense and security.
"This is what must be implemented in an integrated, parallel, balanced and mutually beneficial way," he said.
During the coordination meeting, several problems were encountered in the development of the Natuna Administration, including the Indonesia-Vietnam exclusive economic zone boundary negotiations, illegal fishing, maritime domain awareness, regional financial balance, support for sea and air transportation, fuel, and so on.
These problems will be used as material for formulating follow-up policies at the central level, coordinated by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs.
In addition to coordinating meetings, Purbaya also conducted a direct observation of several facilities in Natuna such as the navy office, the Bakamla office, a flare tower and a Lampa Integrated Marine Center and a Lampa Navy Base Port.
The deputy for maritime sovereignty also conducted a review of the airspace arrangement facility above Natuna and visited Sedanau Island as part of the policy formulation to empower the resilience of small islands in Indonesia. Related news: Natuna to organize Senua Isle Festival
