Kumolo informed that a report on unlawful trading of personal information obtained from people's identification and family cards had been submitted by the ministry's Population and Civil Registry Office.
However, Minister Kumolo guaranteed personal data secrecy at the Population and Civil Registry Office.
"The ministry found that some unknown people had misused the information for criminal purposes," he added.
On a separate occasion, the office's chairman, Zudan Arif Fakrulloh, noted that the ministry had urged the police to trace the perpetrators behind leaking personal information to some social media platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter.
He further appealed to people to remain vigilant by not sharing their personal data with social media accounts.
The illegal trade in data was first exposed by social media user Samuel Christian on his Twitter's account @hendralm on July 26.
