Jakarta (ANTARA) - The number of Indonesian nationals working in South Korea has doubled from 3,719 in 2017 to 6,921 in 2018, the Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers Agency (BNP2TKI) has revealed. The increase was caused by a better service provided by the agency and South Korea's Employment Permit System (EPS), mainly in terms of accommodating working permit and visa applications, Chairman Nusron Wahid confirmed in a statement released here Tuesday.

Hence, Wahid expected the cooperation between two agencies to be strengthened in order to support Indonesian migrant workers applying for jobs in South Korea.

Besides its relations to EPS, the agency also had shortened the duration on applying for visas, permits, and placement processes for migrant workers in the past two years, Wahid stated.

Under G-to-G or the government-to-government scheme, the agency has been able to reduce the time taken for placements from 448 days to 84, while under P-to-P or the people-to-people scheme, the agency has cut the process from 72 days to 40, he noted.

Until February 2019, some 36,000 Indonesian nationals had registered as migrant workers in South Korea. Most Indonesian nationals there work in the manufacturing and fishery sectors.
