"Good governance is absolutely necessary, accountable governance must be realized, and transparent governance must be promoted," the President stated
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has said that good, transparent and accountable governance must continue to be pursued.

"Good governance is absolutely necessary, accountable governance must be realized, and transparent governance must be promoted. Effective and efficient governance agile in the face of change must also continue to be pursued," the President stated at the annual session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) held at the Parliament building here on Friday.

He remarked that the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) has played an important role in examining the state financial management and accountability, and in ensuring that the State Budget (APBN) is accounted for.

The BPK has also made sure that every single Rupiah in the APBN to be optimally spent for the people's interests.

In addition to, the BPK had audited the performance and compliance of the government and other agencies and has succeeded in returning the state money and assets worth Rp.4.38 trillion, Jokowi added.

The President said that the 2016-2018 central government financial statements obtained unqualified opinion (WTP). Several local governments also recorded achievements. Th number of local governments obtaining WTP increased from 47 percent in 2014 to 78 percent in 2018.

BPK has also audited the preparations for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Indonesia. Besides, the agency continues to support the prevention and eradication of corruption practices. The corruption eradication efforts need common commitment and support.

Jokowi appreciated BPK's efforts to actively build the nation's reputation internationally. BPK has been entrusted as an external auditor at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) from 2016 to 2021.

The agency has also been elected as an independent external auditor at the International Anti-Corruption Academy for the 2019-2021 period. The BPK has also become the United Nations Panel of External Auditors and is actively involved in several world, Asian and ASEAN audit organizations.
