"The positive trend was followed by the unequal fiscal gap between provinces, where the Williamson Index has lowered, from 0.726 in 2015 to 0.597 in 2018," Jokowi emphasized during the address of the 2020 state budget bill before the House of Representatives’ members.
The government's efforts in reducing the inequality rate was bolstered by the completion of some infrastructure projects from 2017 to 2018.
The projects include the construction of road spanning 17.7 thousand kilometers, bridges measuring 7.8 thousand meters long, 14.2 thousand classrooms, and four thousand school laboratories.
In his state budget speech, the president highlighted other infrastructure projects that were completed, including the construction of 112.3 thousand units of irrigation system, 112.3 thousand homes, as well as 8.6 thousand health packages that were distributed to the needy.
During the plenary sessions, the president highlighted that the country's inequality gap, or Gini ratio level, had decreased, from 0.408 in March 2015 to 0.382 in March 2019.
In the meantime, the country's economic growth boosted in 2019, from 4.88 percent in 2015 to 5.17 percent in 2018 and slightly lowered to 5.06 percent in the first semester of 2019.
