This competition can foster citizens’ cooperation and enthusiasm in interpreting the Indonesian Republic’s Independence Day
Jakarta (ANTARA) - A rowing competition organized by the Central Jakarta Municipality Administration on the Pasar Baru river enlivened the 74th anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day, in the capital city of Jakarta. "This competition can foster citizens’ cooperation and enthusiasm in interpreting the Indonesian Republic’s Independence Day," said Central Jakarta Mayor, Bayu Meghantara, at Pasar Baru in Central Jakarta Friday.

The starting point of the competition is from the Pasar Baru river, precisely on the bridge in front of the Antara Hotel.

As many as 68 teams are participating in the rowing competition, Head of Sawah Besar sub-district Prasetyo Kurniawan stated.

Each team comprises six participants in a rubber boat. The final round of the competition will be held Sunday (August 18).

The teams are made up of staff and officials of the Central Jakarta Mayor's office, local work units, and region-owned enterprises.

Other individual service providers (PJLP) officers and workers handling public facilities and infrastructure (PPSU) are also involved in the annual competition.

The rowing competition attracted the attention of residents, passing drivers, and visitors at Para Baru. As a result, there was heavy traffic on Sutomo road leading to the Pasar Baru area.

Transportation service officials and police officers were deployed to regulate traffic flow. (INE)
