Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted extensive questioning of ex-youth and sports minister Imam Nahrawi as suspect in a bribery case over government funding disbursed for the National Sport Committee of Indonesia (KONI) in 2018.

"(Nahrawi) is questioned as a suspect in a bribery case in connection with the disbursement of the government's funding for KONI in 2018," Febri Diansyah, the KPK spokesman, noted here on Friday.

Nahrawi reached the KPK building at 10:09 a.m. local time.

"I am ready for this because every man must face his fate. For the sake of Allah and Prophet Muhammad, Allah is good. He has never been wrong in (presiding over) the fate," Nahrawi emphasized.

Furthermore, the anti-graft body summoned Atun, a staff at the Youth and Sports Ministry, as a witness in the investigation into Nahrawi's personal assistant, Miftahul Ulum.

The KPK had named Nahrawi and Ulum as suspects in a bribery case in the disbursement of the government's funding for KONI in 2018.

The anti-graft body claims that Nahrawi had allegedly received bribes to the tune of Rp26.5 billion through his assistant, Miftahul Ulum.

The bribe was offered to smooth KONI's grant proposals during the fiscal year 2018. The money was used for the National Awakening Party (PKB) politician's personal use.

Ulum had been under detention since September 11, but the KPK had yet to detain Nahrawi.

Both suspects are not allowed to leave the country since the end of August.

Nahrawi handed in his resignation letter a day after the KPK named him a suspect in the bribery case on September 18. Related news: President names Hanif Dhakiri as acting sports minister
