We have yet to receive a report of residents taking refuge due to the flood,Suka Makmue, Aceh (ANTARA) - Flood triggered by heavy rains over the past few days inundated hundreds of houses in three villages in Nagan Raya district, Aceh province, on Sunday, with floodwater reaching a depth of 60 cm to 100 cm.
The heavy rains caused the local river to overflow its bank, thus inundating the village of Alue Siron in Tadu Raya sub-district and the villages of Krueng Mangkom and Alue Buloh, in Seunagan sub-district.
"We have yet to receive a report of residents taking refuge due to the flood," Head of the Nagan Raya District Social Service Office Muhajir Hasballah told ANTARA on Sunday night.
The flood also inundated an elementary school building n Alue Siron village.
He feared that if heavy rains continued to fall in the district, the flood will spread to other villages.
On Sunday evening, the Nagan Raya district administration distributed relief aid including canned fish, soy sauce, sarongs, prayer rugs, mattress and blankets, among the flood victims.
"We are still monitoring the latest developments in the affected villages. But according to the newest information, the floodwater began to recede on Sunday night," Hasballah said.
