With regard to SNI's function to restrict imported goods, Antara noted that until it can meet the standard requirement, imported goods can be distributed in Indonesia.
The government has imposed non-tariff measures (NTM) to protect and secure domestic investment.

This standardization-based regulation has also been imposed by other countries, under the World Trade Organization's (WTO's) agreement on technical barriers to Trade.
"Several countries in the world have used the standard, technical regulation, and procedures on compatibility adjustment as an instrument to protect the domestic industry from the flow of unqualified imported products," he pointed out.
Compatibility Assessor Agencies (LPK), specifically the Product Certification Agency (LSPro) and Appraiser Laboratory, will conduct the assessment of the instruments.
"The ministry has continued to improve the capability of LPKs, especially the appraiser laboratories, to meet the demand in SNI application," he stated.
