Jakarta (ANTARA) - Newly inaugurated Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate will continue development programs in the telecommunications sector.

"What is requested is an acceleration. We should follow up on it, though it needs an adjustment," Plate remarked after the handover ceremony at the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, Jakarta, Wednesday.

One of the programs to be implemented by Minister Plate is completing primary legislation.

"We have to complete it," he stated.

The Ministry of Communication and Informatics has completed construction of the Palapa Ring infrastructure in 2019.

However, the project is still constrained by the presence of blank spots or points that do not receive internet signals.

"We have to finish making the connection, so we can cover it in the national jurisdiction," Minister Plate noted.

The minister is also keen on strengthening the function of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics as an institution to convey government programs and policies to the community, including the country’s achievements.

As a result, the community can be involved in the development.

"I will certainly work together with the State Secretariat or the Office of the Presidential Staff, and the presidential spokesperson to play an active role in communicating the state policy," the minister stated.

Plate was officially appointed as communications and informatics minister on Wednesday after President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), accompanied by Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, announced his cabinet line-up called “Indonesia Moving Forward.”

President Jokowi made the announcement of the Advanced Indonesian Cabinet at the Merdeka Palace.
