Jayapura (ANTARA) - Indonesian President, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), has asked the Papua government to make the Youfeta bridge a marine tourism destination in the city of Jayapura.

"I hope the people of Jayapura and the local government guard the bridge. The Youfeta bridge should be beautified with lights and parks because it has become an inseparable part of the Papuan community," the President said in Jayapura on Monday.

The bridge has emerged as a milestone in the land of Papua. It is not only an important symbol that unites Papuans, but is also a symbol of progress.

"The land of Papua must advance like other regions in Indonesia. Papua is a small paradise on earth. I have visited Papua 13 times," the President remarked.

He explained that it was a joint task to protect and develop Papua.

Therefore, President Joko Widodo and Vice President Ma'ruf Amin made their first working visit to Papua.

"What I did after being sworn in was to visit the land of Papua to ensure its development," the president remarked.

During the first term, President Joko Widodo visited remote areas in eastern Indonesia. There was an imbalance of infrastructure between western, central and eastern Indonesia.

"For that, I always encourage the speedy development of infrastructure in eastern Indonesia," he said.
