Semarang,. C Java (ANTARA) - Central Java Province penciled an inflation of 0.01 percent in October 2019, triggered by a hike in the prices of several commodities, according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Office in Central Java.

The prices of several commodities, including chicken meat, onion, and clove-blended cigarettes, increased in October 2019, thereby adding to the inflation, Chief of the BPS Office in Central Java Sentot Bangun Widoyono stated in Semarang on Friday.

Three out of the six cities in Central Java surveyed for cost of living recorded an inflation, while three others witnessed a deflation.

"Inflation was recorded in Surakarta, Tegal, and Kudus. The highest inflation was clocked in Surakarta, at 0.25 percent," he stated.

In the meantime, Purwokerto, Cilacap and, Semarang witnessed a deflation, with the lowest of 0.06 percent in Semarang.

Widoyono affirmed that the hike in prices of processed foods, beverages, clove-blended cigarettes, and tobacco contributed the most to the October-2019 inflation in Central Java.
