We respect the judge's pretrial verdict that the naming of the suspect by the KPK is legitimate.Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) respected sole judge Elfian's verdict to reject ex-youth and sports minister Imam Nahrawi's request for a judicial review of the commission's decision naming him suspect in an alleged graft case.
"We respect the judge's pretrial verdict that the naming of the suspect by the KPK is legitimate," Evi Lalla, a member of the KPK's legal bureau team, noted during a press conference following the pretrial hearing of Nahrawi's case at the South Jakarta District Court on Tuesday.
She further remarked that Nahrawi’s naming as a suspect in an alleged graft case is based on two pieces of evidence.
"It is based on two pieces of preliminary evidence as set forth in Article 184 of the Penal Code and the decision of the Constitutional Court stipulating that the naming of a suspect is based on two pieces of evidence," he noted.

Sole judge of the South Jakarta District Court shed light on the grounds behind the rejection of Nahrawi's request for a judicial review of the KPK's decision naming him a suspect in an alleged graft case.
The KPK's decision is legitimate, he affirmed while reading out the pretrial verdict at the South Jakarta District Court on Tuesday.
He stated that the KPK had conducted an investigation into the alleged graft case in which it found two pieces of evidence: witnesses and letters related to a quo case.
The investigation into the suspect, based on an investigation order number Sprin.Dik/94/DIK.00/01/08/2019, dated August 28, 2019 is legitimate, he pointed out.
"On August 28, 2019, (it) had issued an investigation order to probe that the applicant has committed a corruption offense. The KPK has two pieces of evidence, specifically witnesses and letters," he stated.

The judge believes that the suspect’s detention on August 27, 2019, is also legitimate.
Imam contended that the letter of detention, signed by then KPK chief Agus Raharjo, is illegitimate since during a press conference, held on September 13, 2019, Agus along with his two deputies -- Laode M. Syarif and Saut Situmorang -- had returned their mandate to President Joko Widodo.
"Although the KPK leadership stated that they resigned and returned the mandate to the president, judicially, the president has not issued a decision discharging the KPK leadership, who resigned, and has not proposed replacements to the House of Representatives. The KPK leadership, who resigned, still perform duties," he stated.
