We need to strengthen synergy between enterprises and the government to understand more about the condition of partner countries whilst the government is watching over the implementation of the FTA commitment.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) is encouraging import-export businesspersons to garner optimal benefits from the free trade agreement (FTA) between Indonesia and other nations since many are yet unaware of the scheme.

Additional efforts are necessitated to disseminate information on the FTA to businessmen, Deputy Chief of International Relations of Kadin Shinta W. Kamdani stated during a national working meeting here on Tuesday.

The national working also attended by Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi.

In the midst of the unconducive condition of global trade, business actors need to know the problem of the country. Thus, geopolitical issues are important for business people.

It becomes paramount to be certain whether a country is safe to conduct trade cooperation with, for which the geopolitical issues become strategic knowledge.

"We need to strengthen synergy between enterprises and the government to gain a broader understanding of the condition of partner countries, whilst the government observes the implementation of the FTA commitment," Kamdani noted.

Furthermore, it is paramount that enterprises strengthen "market researches on promotion, market intelligence, and data gathering of non-tariff barriers, including technical regulation, standard, and private standard."

To this end, Kadin, along with the Trade Ministry, the Foreign Affairs Ministry, and partner countries' representatives have been prepared to raise awareness of the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IA-CEPA), Indonesia-European Free Trade Association (EFTA) CEPA, and Indonesia-Korea CEPA.

"We recommend to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study, including on the market-demand data and impact analysis of FTA to have a more significant impact on our nation, while Kadin has been issued a public private consultation handbook and posmon paper to support this," Kamdani revealed.
