We have a common will. We want to boost Indonesia’s ranking in the ease of doing business to 40th, between 40th and 50thJakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has targeted Indonesia to rank 40th in the World Bank's (WB’s) Ease of Doing Business index.
"We have a common will. We want to boost Indonesia’s ranking in the ease of doing business to 40th, between 40th and 50th," President Jokowi remarked during a limited cabinet meeting here on Thursday held to discuss acceleration of ease of doing business.
Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, cabinet ministers, Police Chief Gen. Idham Azis, and Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin attended the meeting.
"Five years back, Indonesia was ranked 120th, but it leaped to 72nd in 2018. Its position remained stagnant and down slightly to 73 in 2019. Hence, we need to have in place complete solutions," he stated.
In its report of Doing Business 2019 issued on October 31, the WB has slightly raised Indonesia's score by 1.42 points to 67.97 out of 100 in comparison with the previous year.
Indonesia's score in 2018 rose 2.25 points to 66.47, thereby bringing the country’s ranking to 72nd in ease of doing business.
The WB assessed that Indonesia has made reforms in some categories in the form of starting a business, registering property, and getting credit.
"We need structural reform, deregulation, debureaucratization, so we can simplify doing business. I want all ministers to evaluate each problem in detail and to detect weaknesses and points that have hindered businesses," Jokowi emphasized.
President Jokowi has called upon Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto and Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan to monitor measures adopted to improve the ease of doing business.
New Zealand topped the index, followed by Singapore and Denmark. Other countries on the top 10 list are Hong Kong, South Korea Selatan, Georgia, Norway, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Macedonia.ose Related news: VP keen to witness Indonesia climb Global Innovation Index rating
