Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir expressed keenness to witness people with high talent, capability, and high-integrity among members of Indonesia's young generation taking up positions in the board of directors in the nation’s SOEs.

"The preferable ages of these young individuals are around 46 years old. My deputy minister, Mr Tiko (Kartika Wirjoatmodjo), is younger than I am. Well, we want to do more on this," he stated while addressing participants of the 2019 Millennial Fest here on Saturday.

Apart from his keenness to promote youngsters with sound capability and track records as well as high integrity, Thohir highlighted the need for senior figures to become mentors and take up positions of the SOEs' board of commissioners.

The capable millennials will be able to usher in innovation and changes in tune with the era of disruption. However, they still need senior and experienced figures to become their mentors, he stated.

"We still need our good seniors at the board of commissioners or at the SOEs Ministry. Our seniors can also become ministers but let our young and competent figures work and make breakthroughs," he noted.

Last but not the least, Thohir reiterated the significance of possessing high levels of morality and integrity for those leading Indonesia's SOEs. "Morality is part of the priorities in seeking competent figures," he remarked.

Thohir has demonstrated his seriousness in defending the significance of morality in managing a state-owned enterprise.

On December 9, 2019, he officially fired five members of Garuda Indonesia's board of directors, including its president director I Gusti Ngurah Askhara, after the case of Harley Davidson motorcycle and Brompton folding bike smuggling came to light.

The Herley Davidson motorbike and Brompton folding bike were smuggled through this national flag carrier's new Airbus A330-900 Neo aircraft.

At the Millennial Fest 2019, held at Balai Sarbini, Jakarta, Thohir also expressed keenness to see the SOEs allocate its corporate social responsibility (CSR) fund for the education and environment sectors.

"CSR for the education sector is 22 percent, while for the environment sector it is only one percent," he added.
