Jakarta (ANTARA) - An earthquake of magnitude 5.5 rocked the waters of Mukomuko District, Bengkulu Province on Monday night but it caused no tsunami.

The tremor which struck at 21:49 WIB (Western Indonesia Standard Time) was centered 51 kilometers southwest of Mukomuko at a depth of 30 kilometers, the Meteorology, Climatology and geophysics Agency (BMKG) said on its official website.

The tremor was felt in Mukomuko, Padang, Painan, Kepahiang, Bengkulu Kerinci, and Padang Panjang.

There was no immediate report of injuries and fatalities.

An earthquake of magnitude 5.5 is considered moderate and capable of causing considerable damage.
